Final Post For NYG 2018

A restful night’s sleep, a little breakfast, and on the road we go, later than planned, hotel didn’t have our checkout information ready. This is a good time to quote one of our speakers “there’s grace for that”.The morning ride was once again very quiet, a few on phones, a few eating a little breakfast, but most went back to sleep.  We stopped for lunch in Lamar Heights, Missouri. There were quite a few options available and where some of us went, they had “hand dipped” cones (inside joke, ask someone). I opted for the mint chip, yum!

As we approached Kansas City, there was stop and go traffic (mostly stopped) so our bus drivers found an alternate route around all the standstill traffic and we were rolling again, going through KC a little after 3:00 and stopped for supper in Ellsworth, Iowa. Everyone was so anxious to get home it was the shortest eating break of the trip.

This will be my final update for our amazing trip, with these amazing kids, worshiping our amazing God. Thanks for trusting the three of us chaperones with your teens, we had a blast!

And though our trip is officially done, we must all remember that God’s Love, God’s Grace, God’s Hope and Jesus… CHANGES EVERYTHING!

Day 6 - June 30th

Today was our service learning day so we were up very early, met at 5:00 in my room and headed out for the light rail. We arrived at the light rail at 5:30 only to find out there were no trains till 6:00, but we met Chico. God shows up in the strangest places, what a great impromptu message for all of us. He told us Jesus belongs right here and he patted his heart. Our visit was awesome. He told the kids keep doing what you’re doing!

Guess which one is Chico

After our visit, we headed out for NRG to find out what we would be doing. We spent our day at Eliot Elementary painting, cleaning, power washing, window washing, paper shredding and many other tasks!  Then it was back to NRG for a celebration.

Day 7 - July 1st

Up early on our final day in Houston to load the bus and head to NRG Stadium for closing worship. The worship service was incredible with the house band (great all week) leading us in worship. Both Bishop Eaton and Savanna Sullivan had powerful messages about how God’s love, God’s grace, and God’s hope changes everything. And they challenged our youth to be the voice in the world that will make a difference, when everyone around them is silent. Then after communion and the closing song the announcement was made..See You In Minneapolis, MN in 2021...and when the 31,000 we’re leaving the SKOL chant was heard throughout the crowd.

The bus ride was very quiet for the first couple of hours. And then after watching a couple of movies we stopped for supper in Sherman, Texas. While we waited for everyone to get back to the bus, a game of frisbee broke out. We arrived at our hotel about 10:00, off to bed, home to Stewie tomorrow night!
